The Federal Government is funding the establishment of the Lake Macquarie Mines Fund (‘Fund’) which will help cover the cost of filling the sometimes-cavernous voids left behind by historic coal mines across the Lake Macquarie local government area. The Fund will provide investment certainty for developers and investors by capping the cost of mine grouting, ensuring development in Lake Macquarie is undertaken safely and without the threat of future mine subsidence. Investigations are currently underway to determine the operational area, eligible development types and to setup the application and funding framework for the Fund. The Lake Macquarie Mines Fund is anticipated to open mid-2025.
